On-Site Rework of a Drum Shaft

A precision machining operation was carried out on a drum shaft belonging to a food production facility, with the objective of restoring two critical cylindrical journals—while keeping the equipment in place.

The intervention began with the machining of support diameters in preparation for fitting a custom-designed sleeve. This sleeve was manufactured in two half-shells in our workshop, then welded on-site by the client in accordance with the technical requirements.

Once the sleeve was in place, the orbital machining unit was installed and precisely aligned to allow for accurate re-machining of the journals. The Ø240 f8 and Ø255 f8 diameters were machined to the specified tolerances, followed by a finishing polish to achieve the required surface quality and mechanical interface standards.

The entire operation was conducted in an active industrial environment, with special attention paid to precision, dimensional control, and the functional compatibility of the machined components. A final inspection report was issued at the end of the intervention to ensure full traceability.

This type of service illustrates the efficiency of on-site machining solutions in extending the lifespan of mechanical components while minimizing production downtime.
