A precision metrology operation was carried out on the upstream gate of the main lock chamber at the EDF hydroelectric site in Marckolsheim, as part of a complete geometrical inspection. The objective was to verify the dimensional integrity of all gate components, both in dry conditions and under operational load.
The inspection focused on several key aspects: flatness of the gate leaves, positioning and behavior of the latching systems (both movable and fixed), and relative displacements of components between different closure configurations. Measurements were performed using a laser tracker, allowing for high-accuracy data acquisition within a complex environment, with alignment based on a reference frame constructed from structural points of the installation.
Specific targets were placed to measure geometric variations across multiple operational states (open/closed, dry/loaded). The intervention also included a study of rotation centers and alignment of critical mechanical components.
All points outlined in the control plan were successfully measured. A technical report, including a 3D model and a comprehensive surface map, was delivered to the site operator for documentation and future analysis.
This type of inspection plays a vital role in the safety and reliability of hydraulic infrastructure, providing a precise and documented assessment of the actual geometrical condition of the structures.
